The Giving Tree project aspires to bring awareness of the environmental concerns in Queens community and elevate the Flushing Meadows-Corona park to one that leads the future. This artificial tree will use wind power to generate Electricity to light the park and give it away to viewers and passerby who want to charge their electronic gadgets as a form of altruism to promote higher level of collective consciousness and cooperation that are necessary to ensure our collective well-being and even survival.

“Breathe in time with one another” explores a
sense of Being, or existing, by examining time both as an absolute value and as a relative value as our relative perceptions of it differ from one another.

What Is Your Name? evokes the form of a Clipper seaplane and its reflection on the water. A white plane form is transcribe original signatures of passersby, showcasing different handwriting styles, languages, and alphabets. A blue plane signifying the water’s reflection of the same names transcribed in the standardized International Phonetic Alphabet based on the visitor’s pronunciation of their own names.

Proceeding Being is the engineering of parts for a kinetic effect that reacts to the wind. It Challenges, creates a mechanical device with 180 ball bearings and with 130 moving parts that could withstand direct wind from the Hudson river, coincidentally hurricane Sandys partially submerged this sculpture with direct impact from the waves with no damage taken.

Hak Sul Lee starts as a figure sculptor. Studying human body, he finds that forms have their intrinsic value and meaning regardless of their reference in the body. These non- representational forms are simplified and repeatedly appeared as dominant elements in his work. The relationship of the forms to its compositional context with or without representational elements determines the characteristics of the whole piece. Then the whole piece takes a persona, and the viewers' encounter with it completes the narrative and defines the kind of sensations generated. Recent years he has been producing kinetic sculptures and interactive installations.
